The BEEM-UP project is a Public Private Partnership collaborative project that will demonstrate the economic, social and technical feasibility of retrofitting initiatives for drastically reducing the energy consumption in existing buildings, and lay the ground for massive market uptake of such initiatives.

BEEM-UP Stands for Building Energy Efficiency for Massive market Uptake

BEEM-UP involves key expertise to implement and demonstrate innovative building and energy management approaches with the overall aim to improve energy efficiency in existing buildings and obtain better indoor comfort conditions.

The BEEM-UP project takes an integral approach to overcome these technical, social and economic barriers through three ambitious retrofitting projects in Sweden, the Netherlands and France.

The BEEM-UP is a demonstration project, where the methodology is implemented and developed in three pilot sites serving as demonstrators. To support a high replication potential and a massive market uptake, the demonstrators are spread to France, Sweden and the Netherlands.

What is the core objective?

To develop and demonstrate cost-effective and high performance renovation of existing residential multi-family buildings, drastically reducing the energy demand up to 75%.

How are we going to achieve such an ambitious objective?

  We have 3 demonstration buildings.

We have developed a common methodology to select the optimal scenario in terms of cost effectiveness.

We have taken into account the tenants participation in the implementation.

We are monitoring the buildings to evaluate the energy savings after our interventions.

Expected figures for the 3 demonstration buildings.

ENERGY TARGETS:

Reduction in energy demand for space heating: 75%

Reduction in the energy demand need for hot water: 45%

Reduction in energy demand forlighting: 42%

The action will directly lead to a total energy reduction of 4GWh/year, and 1041 tons of CO² reduction per year.

ECONOMY TARGETS:

Improving the cost-effectiveness of ambitious retrofitting packs.

SOCIAL TARGETS:

Involving the tenants in the retrofitting process, from the planning stage to the building operation. Ensuring a comfortable and healthy living environment
